Summer Camps

CDS has redesigned its summer programs for 2020 with physical-distancing criteria in mind. We’re offering exciting and fun camps for art, theater, fitness, academics and more.

BEARS DAY CAMPS

These two-week camps are for rising third- through eighth-grade students (limited to 10 campers per session)

Is your child looking for some socially-distanced learning and activities with friends this summer? How about playing games, creating art, and exercising outside too! Join Ms. Jennie at CDS Bears Camps in July.

Students can register for one or two, two-week sessions. Families are asked to provide several snacks, a lunch, a water bottle and sunscreen daily. Differentiated for rising 3rd-8th graders.

LET’S PLANT AND HELP THE PLANET (CLIMATE CHANGE CAMP)

Jennie Hamner; for rising 3rd-8th graders (limited to 10 campers)

July 6-17; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. ($650)

  • Research the history of climate changes and its impact to the Earth and explore the science behind the environmental changes that are happening.
  • Our daily schedule will include outdoor stations to stimulate our creativity and get us moving, a camp morning meeting to promote social-emotional wellness and connection, and organized games and exercise around our theme. We will work and play in our gardens and outdoor spaces during the morning hours to plant pollinators gardens and to create repurposed art such as butterfly nectar feeders, cup and saucer bird feeders and water bottle wind chimes. In the heat of the afternoons, we will find a cool spot to dive into some data and explore how and why we have arrived at this point in history regarding climate change and write/produce media to promote community awareness from guide sheets for creating pollinators gardens to a more ambitious curriculum they may envision. We will conclude the day with a read aloud and time to reflect and decompress.

LET’S CREATE

Jennie Hamner; for rising 3rd-8th graders (limited to 10 campers)

July 20-31; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. ($650)

  • If you admire the creativity of others and love to create yourself, this is the camp for you! Explore patterns in mathematics, literature, science and cultures through creation and crafts. Campers will gain knowledge, make connections between content areas and come home each day with a masterpiece of their own!
