CDS has a no cancellation policy for summer camp. Registrants will be responsible for the camp tuition whether or not the child attends.

Do you want your child excited, exploring, and exercising this summer? CDS camps provide young learners with multiple avenues to not only develop their academic skills, but to also play, create, and be active! Bears day campers spend their mornings growing as readers, writers, scientists and/or mathematicians as they explore different subjects, alongside skilled educators who have a passion for teaching.

 

Week 1: June 13 – 17

CREATIVE CRAFTS GALORE

  • Let’s get crafty! Learn how to create handmade gifts. Campers will make salt scrubs, candles, bookmarks, sun catchers, bracelets , and more!

Week 2: June 20 – 24

URBAN INSPIRATION

  • Feeling inspired? Campers will spend the week strolling through downtown Charlottesville visiting art in place, sculptures, murals, and galleries. Using mixed media we will create art based on our observations and discoveries. Let your imagination and curiosity fly by viewing art, being inspired by art, and making art at this urban art camp!

GAMES GALORE!

  • Campers will learn to make their own games while also making new friends and building teamwork skills, learning to communicate and cooperate, and enjoying as much time as possible outdoors.

MUSIC CAMP (Rising 3rd-6th Grade)

  • At Charlottesville Day School’s music camp, rising third through sixth graders will learn about basic musical notation through hands-on activities, construct their own instruments to study the science behind sound, play musical games outdoors, and much more! Students who already play an instrument may bring them along if they wish, but no prior musical experience is required.

Week 4: July 5 – 8

STRONG EMOTIONS: BUILDING EMPATHY, KINDNESS, AND CHARACTER

  • Kindness, Empathy, Resilience, Courage, and Creativity…skills for life! Campers will create projects and explore ways to be more kind, empathetic, resilient, and courageous throughout the week!

Week 5: July 11 – 15

SPORTSMANIA!

  • Join Ms. Goodloe for a high energy week of sports and PE games. This week will be spent outdoors, in the gym, and at Meade Park playing sports such as volleyball, soccer, basketball, ultimate frisbee, and floor hockey as well as some favorite PE games and minute-to-win-it challenges. We will also focus on healthy food choices that give our bodies optimum energy to play!

Week 6: July 18 – 22

BOOKMAKING: READ, WRITE, PLAY!

  • Join friends on a reading adventure! Campers will experience all aspects of reading and writing while experiencing stories in many exciting ways. They will become authors, illustrators, and storytellers, and embrace the joy of listening to many wonderful tales. Campers will also have the chance to be active and play outside, enjoying all that summer has to offer!

HEALTHY BODIES, HEALTHY MINDS

  • Love to dance? Enjoy stretching into yoga zen? Want to create some healthy recipes? Come move your body to a beat and feel healthy during this fitness and cooking camp. In this camp, students will play active games, discover new dance moves, and eat healthy and delicious snacks that they have cooked. Join this camp and do something good for your mind and body!

Week 8: Aug 1 – 5

FUTURE ENGINEERS: TOPPING TOWERS AND BUILDING BRIDGES

  • Come build, problem solve, create, and explore as campers jump into the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math)! Each day, campers will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in one of these areas, working on projects that encourage cooperation and collaboration. Whether it is building bridges to cross an imaginary river or brightening the world with beautiful works of art, campers are sure to grow in this exciting and engaging week of camp!

These camps are for rising 1st through 4th grade students

Afternoon Camp (12:00pm – 3:30pm)$250.00

CDS afternoon camps provide young learners the opportunity to develop their academic skills while playing and creating with teachers and friends! Bears afternoon campers spend time reading, writing, playing, and learning like scientists and mathematicians as they explore different themes.

Week 1: June 13th – 17th

TRAVEL ADVENTURES

  • Travel around the world using your imagination. “Visit Hawaii” to learn about the landscape, nature, and culture in this beautiful part of the world. “Head to Alaska” to learn about the wildlife on land and in the sea. Students will create a travel log as they explore the USA.

Week 2: June 20th – 24th

TAKE A DIVE UNDER THE SEA

  • Let’s dive into learning about the ocean and sea animals! Students will research sea life and bring the creatures to life with different arts and crafts. If you love the ocean or animals this camp is for you.

Week 3: June 27th –  July 1st 

POLAR EXPLORERS

  • Let’s be Polar Explorers! Discover the beauty of the North and South Poles through photography and adventure stories. Make balloon globes, research penguins and narwhals, and learn about the triumphant Shackleton expedition.

Week 4: July 5th – 8th (Closed on July 4th)

LET’S GO BACK TO ANCIENT GREECE

AFRICAN ANIMALS AND HABITATS

  • Let’s take a safari and learn about the animals and their habitats in Africa. We will make jungle slime and animal masks. Students will research endangered animals and what we can do to support their survival.

Week 6: July 18th – 22nd

TAKE A TOUR OF SOUTH AMERICA

  • So many sights to see in South America! Let’s explore Angel Falls, the Amazon River, the Amazon Rainforest, Machu Picchu, and more. Learn customs and traditions of the people in different countries. Let’s cook and eat recipes from different South American cultures.

Week 7: July 25th – 29th

FUTURISTIC FUN

  • It’s time to dream about the future. Engineer your own futuristic machines, design and create clothes that meet the style of the future, and then write stories and plays to share your vision of the future!

Week 8: August 1st – 5th

BLAST OFF TO OUTER SPACE

  • Create a spacecraft and investigate outer space. Learn about the stars and planets while exploring our solar system. Students will learn facts and create fantasies about outer space!

  • Blast off to infinity and beyond! Campers will spend the week learning about the planets, galaxies, and astronauts.

COMMUNITY HELPERS

  • Campers will learn about our local community helpers such as police officers, firefighters, nurses, teachers and more!

OOEY, GOOEY SCIENCE

Channel your inner scientist. Campers will feed their curiosity by asking questions, making predictions, and performing experiments. An experiment a day will make learning feel like play.

FUR, FINS, AND SCALES

  • Come learn about Earth’s weirdest and wackiest creatures!  From the bottom of the sea to high in the sky and everywhere in between, campers will study all there is to know about animal life.

INSECT INVESTIGATORS AND THE GREAT OUTDOORS

  • Calling all entomologists! Campers will investigate the natural world of insects, bugs, spiders, and more!

MADAGASCAR, JR (Rising 4th-8th grade)

  • Come join Mrs. Kelly and Ms. Theresa Sury this summer with Madagascar – A Musical Adventure JR! This blockbuster DreamWorks adventure follows all of your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.
