We are excited to introduce you to our school dedicated to children. We understand that children come to us with different experiences, interests, and strengths. Our mission is to celebrate each of these children and challenge them individually as learners.
A school is only as strong as its teachers. Our teachers are experts in the “best practices” of teaching. Each faculty member is unique and brings a different perspective to our community. Our entire faculty is commited to teaching children to love learning.
Most importantly, each child at CDS is challenged to reach his or her full academic potential. CDS students experience education, rather than being passive bystanders. Their experiences at CDS ignite a lifelong passion for learning.
We would like to learn more about your child and discuss the opportunity for your family to join our community.
Sincerely,
Stacey B. Bruns
Head of School

Forms should be filled out and submitted to the Admissions Department at Charlottesville Day School.
Charlottesville Day School admits students of any race, color, national origin, or ethnic origin to all the privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, or ethnic origin in administration of educational policies, scholarship programs, or other school-administered programs.
Tours are offered to families after the application and application fee has been submitted. CDS will contact you to schedule the tour about two weeks after we receive your application. We generally offer tours beginning in October of each year. Tours last approximately one hour.
CDS does not roll applications from one year to the next. If your child is not currently enrolled in CDS, we ask that you resubmit an application for the next school year.
Charlottesville Day School does offer financial aid for preschool and elementary school. We ask that parents check the box on the bottom of the Enrollment Application asking that information on financial aid be sent to them. In January, families who made the indication on their application will be sent an email with the link to the online financial aid application. The applications are processed by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid. A summary report is sent to CDS and is used in aid decisions.
CDS requires that all prospective, new students submit an application for admission. This includes siblings of current students. An electronic copy of the application can be found at www.charlottesvilledayschool.org/application.html
CDS does not enroll on a first in, first served basis. The Admissions Committee reviews all applications as a pool giving preference to siblings of current students.
Families will either receive a letter indicating that their child has received a space at CDS or is being placed on the wait list. If your child is on the wait list, we will contact you if a space becomes available.
CDS asks that parents of children who were not offered enrollment contracts in March let us know if they would like to be contacted if a classroom space becomes available. We do not keep a ranked list of those on the wait list, but instead will fill the space in a manner that maintains balance in the classroom.
